Wicklow Way 10 Days
The complete trail at a relaxed pace
This is the Wicklow Way done properly—the way the trail was meant to be walked. Ten days, covering the entire 131-kilometre route from Clonegal in the south to Marlay Park on Dublin's doorstep. But here's the difference: you're not rushing. You've got a full free day built into Glendalough, right in the heart of the mountains, where you can explore the monastic ruins at dawn, swim in the lakes if you're brave, hike a few optional peaks, or simply lie in a field and read a book. This is the gift of a longer trip: you arrive day two and by day three you're properly in the rhythm of trail life. Your legs have adjusted, your mind has quietened, and you're actually present instead of just surviving. The Wicklow Way becomes not just a hike you've ticked off, but an experience you've truly lived—conversations with locals in village pubs, morning mist over valleys, the peculiar joy of a proper night's sleep after real physical effort. Whether you've got the time or you're making time, this is the Wicklow Way as it should be experienced. The complete picture. The whole story.
Highlights
🥾 **Glendalough Monastery & Its Hidden Lakes** — Two days here, plus a completely free day. You'll explore this haunted, beautiful valley at your own pace. Early mornings before other walkers arrive. Swimming in icy mountain lakes. The ruins appear differently every time you approach them.
⛰️ **Complete Wicklow Mountains Experience** — The 23 km Glenmalure day is still the challenge, but you've had two easier days to build to it, and two days to recover from it. You're not just passing through wild country; you're truly inhabiting it.
💧 **Lough Tay at Golden Hour** — On your free day in Glendalough, you have the option to hike an optional peak walk to Lough Tay at sunset instead of during the main trail day. Or don't—maybe you want to sleep in. That's the beauty of time.
🏔️ **From Carlow's Farmland to Dublin's Edge** — Starting in Clonegal, you see rural Ireland at its most authentic. By day ten, you're at Marlay Park overlooking Dublin. You've walked through the complete transition from country to city, through every microclimate Ireland's mountains offer.
🌲 **Forest, Moorland, Valley, Lake & Urban Green** — The Wicklow Way is genuinely diverse. You get all of it: dense forest sections, open moorland with wind in your face, dramatic valleys, pristine mountain lakes, and finally the suburban greenway as you approach Dublin. Few trails offer this variety.

Arrival in Bunclody
Welcome to the Wicklow Way. We collect you from Dublin airport and transfer south to Bunclody, a charming border town where the route begins. Time to settle, meet your fellow walkers and guides, and prepare yourself for the next ten days. This is an arrival day—no hiking, just orientation and rest.
Day
2
Clonegal to Shillelagh
expand_more
Clonegal to Shillelagh
Your first full day, and it's a significant one. Starting in the small village of Clonegal, you'll walk through rural Ireland—farmland, country lanes, forest sections—gradually gaining elevation. The ascent is steady but not brutal; you're getting your body adjusted to walking eight to nine hours. By the end, you'll have earned your rest in Shillelagh, a characterful village with real soul. Your legs will feel it, but in that good way.
Day
3
Shillelagh to Moyne

Shillelagh to Moyne
A shorter day to let your body adjust. You're moving into the foothills proper now, moorland appearing, the landscape opening beneath you as you climb. This day is manageable and gives you confidence: 'Yes, I can do this.' You'll arrive in Moyne with energy still in the tank, which is exactly the point. A good night's sleep and you'll be ready for the big days ahead.
Day
4
Moyne to Glenmalure

Moyne to Glenmalure
This is the test. The longest day, the most climbing, the most stunning scenery. You're heading into the heart of Wicklow Mountains through Wicklow Gap, every direction offering extraordinary views. The landscape becomes properly wild. Glenmalure Valley—your destination—feels like you've stepped into another world: remote, dramatic, utterly untamed. This day separates the casual walkers from the committed trekkers. You'll feel like a proper adventurer by the end.
Day
5
Glenmalure to Glendalough

Glenmalure to Glendalough
Today you descend from the wild mountains toward one of Ireland's most historically significant places. The path takes you past waterfalls and through forest before opening to the valley containing Glendalough's monastic site. This day is shorter, giving you recovery time before your free day. The energy of approaching this ancient place builds throughout the day.

FREE DAY in Glendalough

FREE DAY in Glendalough
No hiking, no pressure, no schedule. This is your day. Some people explore the monastic ruins thoroughly—wander among the round towers at different times of day, sit by the lakes, soak in the history. Some sleep in and enjoy a leisurely village breakfast. Some take the optional peak walk to Lough Tay (another 15 km if you want it, or you ignore the mountains entirely and stay valley-bound). Some take a guided tour of local heritage sites. Some simply read a book in a café and let their muscles recover properly. This is the true gift of a 10-day trip: you're not a hiking machine moving from point A to point B. You're a human being experiencing a place.
Day
7
Glendalough to Lough Tay

Glendalough to Lough Tay
Back on the trail with renewed legs and spirit. Today you climb to the most photographed lake in Ireland: Lough Tay, sitting impossibly blue (or dark, depending on light) in its mountain cup. The terrain here is genuinely high and exposed—you're on proper mountain ridges with 360-degree views. On clear days you can see across to Dublin Bay and the coast beyond. This day is exhilarating after your rest.
Day
8
Lough Tay to Enniskerry

Lough Tay to Enniskerry
The mountains begin their transition to foothills. You're descending from high alpine country toward the gentler landscape surrounding Dublin. Forests, managed woodlands, and the first signs of suburban life appearing. Enniskerry is an attractive village with character—good restaurants, friendly pubs, and the sense that you're approaching the end of your journey. A slightly easier day lets your legs prepare for the final push.
Day
9
Enniskerry to Marlay Park
expand_more
Enniskerry to Marlay Park
The final day. Today you complete the entire Wicklow Way, finishing at Marlay Park on Dublin's southern edge. The last serious climbing gives you a triumphant finish—you're not walking downhill into the city, but over ridges and through final mountain sections before Dublin gradually surrounds you. By the time you reach Marlay Park, you've properly earned your completion. Tired, exhilarated, transformed. The sense of achievement is enormous.

Transfer to airport or city centre. Ten days in, you're a different person. Your fitness is entirely different. Your mind is clearer. Your legs are stronger. And you've got stories—real conversations with locals, moment where you were testing yourself, mountains you've touched, valleys you've properly inhabited.
