How To Pay For Your Walking Tour

Photo: Walking Holiday Ireland

When you pay for a walking tour in Ireland, the process should be straightforward, and I've built our payment system to give you flexibility and security. After arranging thousands of tours across routes like the Wicklow Mountains and the Burren, I know that clear payment terms matter as much as the trail itself.

How To Pay For Walking Tour Ireland Bookings

The walking tour booking process at Walking Holiday Ireland follows a simple two-stage structure. You'll pay a 25% non-refundable deposit upfront, and the balance six weeks (42 days) before your start date.

This deposit allows me to immediately secure your accommodations along the trail and arrange baggage transfers. On popular routes, B&Bs and guesthouses fill quickly — especially in high season (May through September).

Booking Timeline Recommendations

I recommend booking at least three weeks before your tour start date, though six weeks or more is better. Here's why:

  • Accommodation along Irish walking trails is limited — many routes pass through small villages with only two or three guesthouses.

  • Baggage transfer logistics require coordination across multiple properties.

  • Spring and summer slots fill first, particularly on the Kerry Way and Dingle Way.

  • If you're booking within six weeks of departure, full payment is required upfront.

Payment Methods: Your Two Options To Pay For Your Walking Tour Ireland

When you pay for your walking tour in Ireland, we offer two secure payment methods: Stripe (card payments) and bank transfer (SEPA). Both are equally secure, and your choice comes down to convenience.

Stripe Payment Walking Tours (Credit & Debit Cards)

All online card payments are processed through Stripe, one of the world's most trusted payment gateways. Stripe handles transactions for companies like Amazon and Google, and it's fully PCI-compliant.

What this means for you:

  • Your card details never pass through our website — Stripe encrypts and processes everything.

  • You'll receive instant confirmation once payment clears.

  • Accepted cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and most EU debit cards.

  • Payment is in EUR (€), though your bank will convert if you're paying in GBP (£), USD ($), or another currency.

This is the fastest option for securing your spot, and I've used Stripe since 2015 without a single security issue.

Bank Transfer Walking Holiday (SEPA Transfers)

If you'd prefer not to pay by card, you can arrange a direct SEPA bank transfer. This is especially common for guests in Ireland and across the EU, where SEPA transfers are free or low-cost.

How to pay by bank transfer:

  1. Complete the booking form on our website.

  2. Select 'Pay with Bank Transfer' when prompted.

  3. You'll receive an invoice by email with our bank details (account number, IBAN, BIC).

  4. Make the transfer through your bank (SEPA transfers typically arrive within 1–3 business days).

  5. Once I confirm receipt, your booking is secured and I'll begin arranging your tour logistics.

Important: Bank transfers take longer to process than card payments, so allow extra time — especially if you're booking close to your departure date.

Booking Deposit Walking Tour: How Much You'll Pay

To secure your reservation and pay for your walking tour Ireland booking, a 25% non-refundable deposit is required. This applies whether you're booking a 5-day Wicklow loop or an 8-day Giant's Causeway adventure.

The remaining balance is due six weeks (42 days) before your tour start date. I'll send you a reminder email with an invoice and payment link well in advance.

What Your Deposit Secures

Once I receive your booking deposit, I immediately begin arranging your tour:

  • Accommodation bookings at B&Bs, guesthouses, and small hotels along your route.

  • Baggage transfer logistics — your luggage will be moved from one property to the next each day.

  • Route notes and maps, which I'll send digitally (and post in hard copy if you prefer).

  • Emergency contact support throughout your walk.

Your deposit isn't just a placeholder — it's the trigger for me to lock in every detail of your holiday.

Secure Payment Walking Holiday: Confirmation & Invoices

After you've submitted your booking and payment (or bank transfer details), here's what happens next:

  1. Immediate confirmation email — you'll receive an automated confirmation within minutes (for card payments) or once your bank transfer clears.

  2. Booking confirmation — I'll personally confirm your tour itinerary, accommodation list, and start date within 1–2 business days.

  3. Balance invoice — six weeks before your tour, you'll receive a final invoice for the remaining 75%.

  4. Pre-departure pack — two weeks before you walk, I'll send your detailed route notes, maps, accommodation addresses, and emergency contact information.

Every invoice includes a breakdown of costs, payment due dates, and links to our full terms and conditions.

Tour Payment Terms Ireland: What If Plans Change?

I understand that travel plans can shift. If I'm unable to secure your preferred tour (for example, if accommodation along your chosen route is fully booked), I'll offer two options:

  • Alternative tour — I'll suggest a comparable route in a different region. For example, if the Kerry Way is unavailable, I might recommend the Dingle Way or Beara Peninsula.

  • Full refund — if no alternative suits you, I'll refund everything you've paid in full.

For cancellations you initiate, the following tiered schedule applies (as set out in our terms and conditions):

  • More than 6 weeks before departure: the 25% deposit is forfeited; any balance paid is refunded.

  • 4–6 weeks before departure: 50% of the total tour cost is forfeited.

  • 2–4 weeks before departure: 80% of the total tour cost is forfeited.

  • Within 2 weeks of departure: 100% of the total tour cost is forfeited (no refund).

These tiers reflect the fact that accommodation providers and baggage-transfer operators are paid in advance and their charges are non-refundable. I always recommend travel insurance that covers cancellations, especially if you're booking months ahead.

Step-by-Step Guide: How To Pay For Walking Tour Ireland Bookings

Here's exactly how to pay for your walking tour Ireland booking from start to finish:

Step 1: Choose Your Tour

Browse our full tour catalogue and select your route. Each tour page lists distances, difficulty ratings (see our grading system), and daily itineraries.

Step 2: Select Your Start Date

Most tours are available from March through October, with peak season running May to September. Check availability on the tour page or contact us for specific dates.

Step 3: Complete the Booking Form

Fill in your details: name, email, phone, group size, and any special requests (dietary requirements, single room preferences, etc.).

Step 4: Choose Your Payment Method

Select either:

  • Pay Now (Stripe) — enter your card details and pay the 25% deposit instantly.

  • Pay with Bank Transfer — submit the form, then transfer your deposit using the bank details in your confirmation email.

Step 5: Receive Confirmation

You'll get an email confirmation within minutes (card payment) or once your transfer clears (bank transfer). I'll then send a detailed itinerary and accommodation list within 1–2 business days.

Step 6: Pay the Balance

Six weeks before your tour, you'll receive a balance invoice. Pay via the same method you used for the deposit (or switch methods if you prefer — just let me know).

Step 7: Receive Your Pre-Departure Pack

Two weeks before you walk, I'll send your route maps, GPS files (if requested), accommodation phone numbers, and my personal mobile number for on-trail support.

Why I Built Our Payment System This Way

I've been arranging walking holidays in Ireland since 2008, and I've refined our payment system based on thousands of bookings. Here's why it works:

  • 25% deposit is fair — it's enough for me to commit to your accommodation bookings without requiring full payment months in advance.

  • Two payment options cover everyone — card payments are instant; bank transfers suit EU guests who prefer direct debits.

  • Six-week balance deadline protects both of us — accommodation providers require payment in advance, and six weeks gives you time to arrange funds while allowing me to confirm logistics.

  • Stripe security is non-negotiable — I never see or store your card details, and Stripe's fraud protection is industry-leading.

This system has processed thousands of bookings without a single payment dispute or security breach.

Frequently Asked Questions About How To Pay For Walking Tour Ireland

Can I pay in GBP or USD instead of EUR?

When you pay for a walking tour in Ireland, all prices are listed in EUR (€), but Stripe accepts international cards. Your bank will convert the payment at the prevailing exchange rate. Bank transfers must be in EUR.

Is there a fee for paying by card?

No. We absorb all Stripe processing fees — the price you see is the price you pay.

Can I pay the full amount upfront?

Yes. If you'd prefer to pay in full at the time of booking (rather than in two stages), just select that option in the booking form or mention it in your email.

What if I need to change my start date after paying the deposit?

Contact me as soon as possible. If accommodation is available on your new dates, I'll move your booking at no extra charge. If not, standard cancellation terms apply.

Do you accept cheques?

No. We only process card payments (via Stripe) and bank transfers (SEPA).
